What to expect from a fly fishing trip?
Hybrid and Striper fishing is always best when Georgia Power is moving water. On Lake Oconee, the Wallace Dam Project is a pumped storage initiative. This means electricity is generated as water drains through the dam, but water is also pumped back up to so the same.
Georgia Power does not publish a generation schedule, but are fairly regular through different seasons. We will plan your time on the water to coincide with moving water.
When water is moving often the surface activity is off the charts and Hybrids / Stripers are easily caught on a surface fly.
When the generation stops the bite will continue for an hour or so and if you want to switch to spoon or live bait fishing larger fish are usually taken.
Are you strictly a fly fishing guide service?
No, and as mentioned above a combination trip gives you the best opportunity to experience fly fishing and enjoy time using spinning tackle as well. Often it is good for one angle to fly fish and another to use spinning tackle.
Are you catch and release only?
No, feel free to keep fish within legal limits. However, please only keep what you need and plan to eat. Releasing a fish does give another angler to catch that fish when it has grown. I can show you how to properly filet fish for your enjoyment.
What about crappie trips?
These are spinning tackle, but there are times that that they can be taken on a fly. From December through March, large crappie are taken by spider rigging and long lining.
